Equine Assisted Learning (EAL)

Equine Assisted Pyschotherapy (EAP)

EAP uses horses as co-facilitators to explore mental health challenges and encourages personal insight and healing through an experiential approach. The EAP form of therapy can also help the client address
a variety of social and emotional challenges.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the emotional distress and the symptoms that are the result of disturbing life experiences. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can heal from psychological trauma much like the body recovers from physical trauma. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering.  Once the block is removed, healing resumes. EquiLateral is The Equine Assisted EMDR Protocol which combines the two modalities of Equine-Assisted Interactions and EMDR Therapy. The horse provides:

  • Physical grounding support in the present as the client is working through their past trauma

  • Immediate feedback on where the client is emotionally and mentally

  •  Helps the client build resourcing tools they can use when triggers of their trauma arise.

EAL involves short term educational activities that allow the horses to assist participants in learning new skills and problem solving strategies that transfer to real life situations. This equine interactive learning provides an opportunity to identify patterns of behavior and try new skills in a safe environment with instant feedback.

Our Equine Wellness Workshops are designed to help individuals understand their emotions, learn how to listen to “the mind and body”, and practice new skills that enhance their personal, emotional, physical and social well-being.

"I have been around horses since I was a kid. I thought I knew a lot about horses,
but equine therapy opened my eyes. I learned more about myself through equine
therapy. Working with horses taught me how to be more in tune with my
emotions. The horses fed off my energy and knew when I was emotional before I
even knew it. Equine therapy changed my life! I can not recommend it enough."

“Before equine therapy, I never trusted any therapist enough to open up about
my trauma. The unconditional love of the horse was the first thing to open my
heart back up and help me work through my past. It turned around my
depression, and the horse gave me the best gift I could ask for… the desire to

“Equine therapy helped me recover in a way I never thought possible.
Developing such a special connection with a horse allowed me to learn to trust
again and believe in myself. The unconditional love and support from such a
beautiful animal helped me to recover from my trauma and learn to appreciate
life in a different way.”

“Equine therapy helped me when my parents could not. I learned empathy,
responsibility, boundaries, and how to heal through equine therapy.”
